Pupils join stars in a one-day fast

Students and schoolchildren in Bradford will be going on a sponsored fast to raise cash for the Third World.

Three schools and Bradford University have so far asked to take part in the one day sponsored food famine. Star names like Kim Wilde, Esther Rantzen and Wayne Sleep have also been signed up for the national campaign organised by World Vision of Britain to raise money for water improvement schemes in the Third World where lack of water is the biggest single killer.

Belle Vue Boys School off Haworth Road, Fairweather Green Middle School, St. George’s School, Undercliffe and Bradford University will be asking the hundreds of pupils and students taking part to keep off solid food from 7 p.m. on Friday, May 9, to 7 p.m. on Saturday. It is the first time World Vision has organised the fast in Britain, although in other countries it is a big annual event.

The group is looking for more schools, groups or individual volunteers to take part. For a free information pack dial 100 and ask the operator for Freefone Famine Appeal, or write to World Vision of Britain, 24 Hour Famine, PO Box 123, Northampton.
