Review – Here and Now Tour, Sheffield Arena

Going to see the people you idolised 20 years ago is some what of a mixed blessing. Two decades ago a line up of Kim Wilde, Nick Heywood, Curiosity Killed The Cat, T’Pau, heaven 17, Go West and Paul Young would have had people queueing up around the block. But two decades on going to see the same line up makes you think of your dad embarrassingly trying his hand at karaoke on Christmas Day. And this was the case with more than half the line up at Sheffield Arena on Friday night – for some ageing popstars they should not be seen let alone heard. For example Curiosity Killed The Cat still killed their music with their arrogance, while Go West may have had many dancing in the aisles – most were left thinking they were watching some second rate popstar show on telly.

Others were surprisingly good. Kim Wilde may now be better known for her gardening talents but she was definitely one of the nights favourite oldies with her splendid renditions of You Keep Me Hangin’ On and Kids In America. Paul Young on the other hand should have kept his hat at home!
