Shortly before the start of the German Touring car Championship the following message reaches our desk: Kim Wilde, celebrated star of the 80’s with superhits like “Kids In America” and “Keep Me Hanging On”, has sung the official song for this year’s DTM-series. Before every race broadcast on ARD and ZDF [television channels] her “Born to be wild” will be played as the official themesong.
Only recently we wrote about Kim Wilde’s new gardening column for the breakfast programming of British broadcaster ITV. We assumed that the singer, who quit the music scene in 1995, didn’t plan a comeback. In the mean time she has become mother of two children and minds her own ecological vegetable garden. The contrast between DTM and her ecological-mindedness is apparently no problem. “She isn’t planning on planting radishes on the Hockenheimring”, says a spokesman for the singer.
The song is by the way a cover version of the classic song by Steppenwolf, embellished with Trash-Disco-Beats and produced by a certain Jeo Pard, who also has done production for Falco in the past. It’s not known yet if this song is a one-time only thing. Insiders believe that there is more to come.
