The British pop singer Kim Wilde returns to the limelight after four years of silence. At the end of August her new album ‘Come out and play’ is released. During her break she spent a lot of time in her garden.
Almost 30 years after her breakthrough with the hit ‘Kids in America’ Kim Wilde returns after a four year break from the music business at the end of August with a new album. On August 13 the first single ‘Lights down low’ from the new cd ‘Come out and play’. World star Kim Wilde needed, like she says, the break to develop new ideas.
She did this most of all in the garden. Kim Wilde is a studied horticulturalist. To the DDP she said, looking back on her break: ‘I wrote articles about landscape gardening, presented TV programmes, but also worked in the garden myself.’ A lot of that, she says, is real hard labour and a world away from the music.
In 1981, Kim Wilde broke through with her song ‘Kids in America’. With further hits like ‘Chequered love’, ‘Cambodia’, ‘You keep me hangin’ on’ and ‘You came’ she became a worldwide star and sold some 20 million albums. She didn’t let it go to her head and kept her feet on the ground. ‘I am satisfied with what I have… I have a good health, a wonderful family, a profession I love with a passion and I have a lovely dog’, says Kim Wilde.
The new songs on ‘Come out and play’ are a bit rougher than her previous songs. From February 2011 she will tour Germany. Her German tour starts in Köln.
