Over £31k donated to children’s charity after Nik Kershaw concert

East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) is thrilled to have received £31,287.45 from Music4Causes, the organisers of a recent Nik Kershaw gig.

The private benefit concert at Suffolk Barn, the magnificent 15th century venue near Bury St Edmunds, was packed out by over 250 revellers eager to hear pop legend Nik perform a set of his classic tracks as well as plenty of new material.

During the evening, celebrity auctioneer Will Axon, of Flog It and Antiques Road Trip fame, expertly corralled guests in an auction of promises to raise almost £22,000. Among top prizes was a coveted gold disc donated by another music star of the ‘80s, Kim Wilde.

A cheque presentation recently took place at Tewin Bury Farm Hotel in Hertfordshire, for which both Nik and Kim managed to find time in their hectic schedules promoting new music. Also present was Andrew Sunnucks of Audio Network, a major sponsor of the concert, and EACH Chief Executive Graham Butland.

Graham said: “We were delighted to be chosen by the M4C team to benefit from this. Huge thanks to them for all their hard work, as well as Nik, the companies that supported, people like Kim who donated important pop memorabilia for the auction and, of course, everyone who turned out on the night and gave so generously. The magnificent sum raised will be enormously helpful in enabling us to deliver vital care for children with life-threatening conditions, and support for their families, across Suffolk, Norfolk, Cambridgeshire and north Essex.”

M4C committee member Mands Harrison said: “We knew there was an appetite amongst local friends to raise much-needed funds for this important charity and to do it in a fun way. There’s a huge amount of generosity and goodwill in Suffolk, and we just needed to find the sweet spot to tap into it. We’re all absolutely delighted our first Music4Causes charity gig has been so successful.”
