Ace Remix Service was started by James Fraser and Paul Goodyear. Paul had been DJing for nearly 10 years and James for around 3 years. Both had used other DJ remix services and even worked for Rhythm Stick and Hot Tracks for some time. Paul also worked for Direct Hit. Ace remix service wanted to give remix services a more UK/European feel as at the time. Ace also wanted to move away from having breaks/mix out points in the middle of songs as a lot of the US services did.
James’ job was to look after the administration side and do some edits while Paul would provide most of the mixes along with Mark Alsop. Paul’s wife Wilma also looked after the books. Other DJs who provided mixes included Steven Beale (Melbourne DJ), Nathan G. (Melbourne DJ), James Arnold (Sydney DJ), Bob Walker (Northern Queensland DJ) and Shawn King (Melbourne DJ).
Ace initially manufactured both CD and vinyl but eventually the expense of having the vinyl pressed in the USA and shipped back to Australia caused them to drop the vinyl format. When Paul wanted to move to Brisbane he sold his share to James after issue 13. James continued the service for 11 more issues, and then had to stop the service because of high fees commanded by record companies in Australia.
There were two Ace remixes of Kim Wilde tracks, both made in 1997: Heaven and Shame.
