On October 10, 2020, the UK celebrates the third annual National Album Day. It is organised jointly by record labels body the BPI (The BRIT Awards and Hyundai Mercury Prize) and the Entertainment Retailers Association (Record Store Day), and is supported across the BBC with highlights available to listen to on BBC Sounds, along with the UK’s recorded music industry including AIM and other trade associations, retailers and digital/streaming platforms, and partners including Classic Albums Sunday – who this October celebrate their tenth anniversary.
The event also has its own ambassadors. Among them are Marty and Kim Wilde! Marty is of course set to release his new album ‘Running Together’ a week ahead of the day, and both have released many albums during their careers. In the press release they say:
An album can be a ticket for the greatest journey that lasts a lifetime!
They recorded a video message, which you can see below.
Other ambassadors are Billy Ocean, La Roux, Toyah Willcox, ABC’s Martin Fry, T’pau’s Carol Decker, Jazzie B and Ward Thomas. Keep track of the National Album Day website for more news, events and exclusive Album Day activities to be announced in the coming weeks.
