Kim Wilde’s first records were written and produced by her father and brother, Marty and Ricky. The three of them have had a great influence on the music world, as this regular series ‘Wilde World’ shows.
‘I am an astronaut’ was Ricky Wilde’s debut single, a Marty Wilde composition that has been covered by many artists, from Benjamin Wahlgren to Snow Patrol. An interesting version was recorded by Anicken Loken. ‘Jeg er en astronaut’ was a Norwegian translation of the song by Elvind Torp, who also translated Marty’s song ‘The spirit of Joe Hill’ for Stein Ingebrigtsen.
What’s strange about this version is that Anicken sounds like she’d rather be somewhere else. The single was released in 1989, with the song ‘Malaika’ on the A-side.
