Kim Wilde’s first records were written and produced by her father and brother, Marty and Ricky. The three of them have had a great influence on the music world, as this regular series ‘Wilde World’ shows.
Cover versions of Marty’s Seventies hits ‘Ice in the sun’, ‘I’m a tiger’ and ‘Jesamine’ appear on two EP’s released by Avenue Recordings Ltd. Avenue was based in Chingford, and was run by Gordon Melville from his own house. Avenue began their covers activities as early as 1967, but confined their output to 6-track EPs, although they leased their recordings to Marble Arch, who used them to assemble the early ‘Chartbusters’ LP series.
The EP’s were performed by the Clive Allan Orchestra & Singers, and are interesting for their faithful interpretations of the original hit versions. The version of the Doors track ‘Light my fire’, which features on the EP that also features ‘Ice in the sun’ is a direct copy of the José Feliciano version of that track. ‘Ice in the sun’ sounds convincingly like Status Quo.
