Wilde World: Linus Wahlgren

Kim Wilde’s first records were written and produced by her father and brother, Marty and Ricky. The three of them have had a great influence on the music world, as this regular series ‘Wilde World’ shows.

Most fans will know that eight years before Kim debuted with ‘Kids in America’, her younger brother had already had modest success with a series of singles between 1972 and 1974. The first of these was I am an astronaut, released on the UK records label in 1972. The song was written by his father, together with Pete Shelley and was a hit in Scandinavia. So much so, that the song was covered several times by Scandinavian artists.

The 1985 cover by Linus Wahlgren stands out, because he has gone on to become a successful actor in later life, starring in several Swedish films and doing vocal overdubs in Swedish for films like ‘Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius’ (2001) and ‘Robots’ (2005). His version was released as a single on yellow and blue vinyl and was a moderate success in the Swedish charts.
