Wilde World: Little Rockin’ Rudo

Kim Wilde’s first records were written and produced by her father and brother, Marty and Ricky. The three of them have had a great influence on the music world, as this regular series ‘Wilde World’ shows.

Just two weeks ago we mentioned the Dutch version of ‘I Am An Astronaut’, recorded in 1974 by De Waagzangertjes. It was a new discovery, because until recently we weren’t aware of any Dutch cover versions of Ricky Wilde’s debut single. But in fact, one thing led to another, and we actually found a release that predates this children’s choir’s release.

Little Rockin’ Rudo, a child star that didn’t achieve fame even in the Netherlands, released his single ‘Amsterdam Rock’ in 1973. It would turn out to be his only release, but it is made more interesting by the B-side: ‘Ik Ben Een Astronaut’. You guessed it, it’s the Dutch version of ‘I Am An Astronaut’, translated by Jacques Zwart who would also be involved in the Waagzangertjes LP a year later.
