Wilde World: Mike Huff

Kim Wilde’s first records were written and produced by her father and brother, Marty and Ricky. The three of them have had a great influence on the music world, as this regular series ‘Wilde World’ shows.

South African singer Mike Huff released two singles in 1976: ‘I can’t wait to dream’ and ‘Hand me down love’. The latter features the track ‘Come back and love me’ on the B-side – a track written by Peter Shelley and Marty Wilde. Marty Wilde, of course, recorded this track himself using the pseudonym Shannon. It seems quite extraordinary that a South African singer would cover the track, but then Marty did spend some time down there while he was filming ‘The Hellions’ (released in 1961).

Huff’s version of ‘Come back and love me’ sounds a little more oldfashioned than the original, but it’s great to hear. After all, this single is quite rare: it was never released outside of South Africa.
