Kim Wilde’s first records were written and produced by her father and brother, Marty and Ricky. The three of them have had a great influence on the music world, as this regular series ‘Wilde World’ shows.
When we interviewed Kim in 2007, we asked about the song ‘Lullaby’, which was included on Marty Wilde’s 1969 album ‘Diversions’. He wrote the song himself, and Kim said at the time: “It’s one of my favourite ever songs and dad wrote it for us. It was obviously written during a time he was away a lot. I don’t remember him being around very much at all. So it was a lovely song. It was such a beautiful thing to have. And it’s such a sweet little song. It meant a lot then and it means a lot now.”
We recently found out that this song was actually recorded by another artist in 1972. It appears on the B-side of a single by Paul Andrews. The single is ‘If We Only Have Love’, which is a cover of a song by Jacques Brel, ‘Quand On N’a Que L’amour’. Andrews’ version of ‘Lullaby’ stays pretty close to the original. The single was made in Angola, a Southern African nation which is not exactly renowned for its music industry. Andrews released one other single: ‘My Girl Maria’, in 1970. The story pretty much ends there, because there is no information about Paul Andrews anywhere.
