Wilde World: Snow Patrol

Kim Wilde’s first records were written and produced by her father and brother, Marty and Ricky. The three of them have had a great influence on the music world, as this regular series ‘Wilde World’ shows.

One of the most astounding cover versions of the Ricky Wilde song ‘I am an astronaut’ has to be the recent version by the popular band Snow Patrol. They recorded their version for a compilation album called ‘Colours are brighter’, a charity album to raise money for Save The Children. Eventually, the track also appeared as a B-side on the single ‘Open your eyes’, taken from their then-current album ‘Eyes open’.

Snow Patrol almost need no introduction: they formed in 1994 and had big hits with their singles ‘Run’, ‘Chasing cars’ (which was covered by Kim Wilde during her live shows a few years ago) and ‘Just say yes’. The band announced a forthcoming new album earlier this year.
